How this event connects to class
Philly Music Fest is all about reinvesting in the Philadelphia Music Community!
They put forth funding into educational music programs, local musicians, and independent venues.
One of the educational music programs they help fund is Girls Rock Philly. This organization is dedicated to building an intergenerational community of girls, women, and trans and gender-expansive people. All in all, not only are they breaking barriers and encouraging the growth of intersectionality (women-rock player, transgender-rock player, etc.), but they creating a safe, diverse, inclusive environment for minority groups to thrive while sharing the love of rock music. You could even say they're bringing out their inner Rosetta Tharpe! You can learn more about this organization here: https://www.girlsrockphilly.org/
Here is a little preview to the impact that Girls Rock Philly has made thus far
Philly Music Fest supports numerous other organizations and gives back to areas in which music education has been cut in their schooling program. To see what other educational programs Philly Music Fest funds, check out their "about" page here: https://phillymusicfest.com/about/
As I saw during the show, Philly Music Fest aims to help local artists and venues. The show consisted of diverse artists in both race and genre. By supporting Philadelphia venues, it allows the independent music venues to curate an experience that is both local and establish a sense of cultural diversity. If you want to gain a better understanding and appreciation for cultures different than your own, Philly Music Fest is a great place to explore.

Hope to see you there next year.
